~ Heather Soos ~
acrylic

From a young age Heather enjoyed drawing and learning about animals. She was greatly inspired after seeing the work of Robert Bateman and, by the time she finished high school, was aiming to be a wildlife artist. She spent two years at the University of Victoria, in Fine Arts, and later worked on a commercial art course by correspondence, but eventually began painting wildlife on her own. By the time she was in her twenties she was selling her paintings in travelling exhibitions with the Federation of Canadian Artists. Her main focus has always been wildlife, mostly in acrylic, although she has worked in pen and ink, pastel, pencil, gouache and, more recently, oil. She has also done some wood carving.

Because of her husband’s career in the military, their family has moved often, living in the prairies and on both coasts, as well as Germany for four years. She has painted and observed various animals in her travels and is planning to visit Africa in the near future to focus on painting its wildlife.

Heather is a member of the Society of Animal Artists. Her art has been shown on Vancouver Island, in Nova Scotia, and overseas in the Netherlands and Bruges, Belgium. Her work can be seen on her website www.heathersoos.ca and at Riverway Gallery in Courtenay, British Columbia. She lives in Winnipeg with her family, and works at home in her studio.
