"Fourth in a long line of talented Fibre Artists,
Dianne Leatherdale Johnson has found that fabric,
and anything that can be attached to it, is an
endlessly fascinating medium for artistic
expression. She began quilting in 1998, quickly
learning that traditional quilting, while a
stunning art form, was not for her. She much
prefers creating her own works, and she finds
that designing is the most enjoyable part of the
process.
Dianne has taken classes on technique with such
luminaries as Ken Smith from Australia, Jenny
Raiment from the U.K. and Patricia Findlay here
in Winnipeg. With many “tools” in her mental
tool box she brings to life anything she can
visualize, using fabric and thread--- and her
own eclectic use of embellishment!
Humor is often a factor in her work, which always
strives to evoke emotion. Her designs also show
a reverence for nature and the world around her.
“Art doesn’t have to be dark and full of angst;
it can make you feel good too.”
