A passionate artist from a young age, Linda
Glowacki has worked in oils, watercolor, acrylics, pastel, conte crayon,
pencil, and pen and ink; she has also dabbled in sculpting clay and carving wood.
A few years ago, Linda acquired some purebred Shetland
Sheep, and the resulting mounds of fine, naturally colored fibre from the first
shearing led quickly to experiments with felting (and the acquisition of more fibre
critters!). The depth and textures of the resulting hand-made felts were an inspiration:
each felt was a highly individual 'canvas'. When enhanced with needle-felted images,
the spirit as well as substance of each subject was captured with a vibrancy difficult
to achieve on canvas alone. Each work of fibre art was a delight not only to the eye,
but to the fingertips.
Linda's primary strength as a fibre artist is her vivid imagination.
Only particular commissioned pieces utilize photographs as a guide; the
vast majority of her work originates in her mind and is translated
directly to the felt without the benefit of a paper sketch. This allows
the work to flow with the natural textures and colors of the hand-made
felt canvas, and lends a truly unique vision to the work.
