" I try
to capture the vitality and rich diversity of the scene, while
concentrating on the emotional context. That is crucial to me".
Leona Brown has walked on the Great Wall of
China, snorkeled in the Grand Cenotes of Mexico, Flamenco danced in
Spain and wept in the Van Gogh Gardens in Arles, France. All of these
experiences influence her art, filling her canvases with vivid colours
and passionate strokes.
She is an active Member of the Federation of
Canadian Artists as well as the Canadian Society of Painters in
Watercolour. She has been President of the Manitoba Society of Artists
and President and Secretary of Winnipeg Sketch Club and also the Artist
Cooperative Medea Gallery, in Winnipeg. She is now represented by
Gallery 240 in Ottawa and Jong Gallery in Nanjing China.
Leona has painted and taught watercolour
for the last 30 years in Winnipeg, throughout Canada and
Internationally. She was an original exhibitor with Art Expo when it
first started and is returning this year to show her new works in
acrylics and mixed media.
.
"Leona paints from the soul and finds that it
is the process of painting that is important to her whether it be
representational or abstract. Leona's pouring out of her heart is indeed
an extensive vocabulary that expresses her feelings in a powerful way."
