A retired zoology professor, Robert is a self-taught artist who has been painting in oils since his early teens. A career spent working with wildlife has immersed him in the natural beauty of wild places, be they beaver ponds in boreal forest, alpine meadows, or prairie marshes. For several years he has owned a cottage in northwestern Ontario and much of his artwork is inspired by the scenery nearby.
The palette knife is Robert’s tool of choice. Working with pure, undiluted oils straight from the tube, he finds that there is a three-dimensional, sculpted quality to knife painting that harmonizes with the rugged landscapes he often portrays.
